This project consisted of relocating a 65LM steel section (895mm dia.) of a Metro Vancouver trunk water main. The relocation was required to avoid a planned bridge abutment and minimize the structural span. This put the worksite in close proximity to the red-coded Norum Creek stream. As part of the relocation works, a cast in place valve chamber was completed with a new butterfly valve. The steep terrain required temporary shoring including sheet piles and soil anchors.
RAM Engineering Role
RAM was retained by the joint venture, FTG Constructors, to engage in preliminary design review with Metro Vancouver, and to manage the schedule, procurement, and construction phases, and to ensure the works remained on budget. RAM Engineering worked closely with the designers to create a design that allowed minimal shutdown duration of the watermain.
