The Myra Falls mine is located approximately 90 km from Campbell River in a provincial park in central Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The mine has been deactivated since 2007 and the mine owner, Nyrstar, is currently upgrading structures both above and below surface to reactivate the mine. Upland Contracting was awarded the contract to provide seismic upgrading to the tailing pond by building additional foundations and raise the current dam by 6 meters including placing over 300,000 cubic meters of Suitable Type A material as dam fill and  upgrading the drainage system on the tailings pond.

RAM was retained by Upland Contracting to assist with Site Supervision and Quality Control (QC) Management.  Our scope of work included IFC design review, site supervision, quality control inspections, and attending weekly production meeting with the project owner and Engineer of Record. The crew consisted of various heavy equipment operators, surveyors and general laborers. RAM provided supervision for all shifts. A key challenge was to place a large amount of fill within project schedule constraints.
