A 4 km section on the South Fraser Perimeter Road Project in North Delta was founded on relatively solid ground but had the challenges of having extremely poor access, steep north-facing slopes and high volume of ground seepage. The single lane 4km pioneer road started in late 2010 and took one year to establish access for excavation, wall building and eventually the delivery of bridge girders. A major milestone was achieved in November 2012 when thirty 50m long NU girders were successfully transported into their positions for the permanent bridge crossings.
