Client / FTG Constructors
Construction Cost / $0.5 Million

Project Description
As part of the South Fraser Perimeter Road project, the existing alignment of River Road between Nordel Way and Arpe Road was shifted to the south, which resulted in several major utility relocations. The Telus Fibre Optic underground relocation occurred during two separate phases of work, with Phase 1 comprising of 250LM of Direct Buried PVC ducts and Phase 2 consisting of 450LM of Concrete Encased ducts. With both phases, various manholes and service vaults were also installed.

Throughout the many phases of construction, a variety of challenges were faced, including:

  • Coordination of the civil works with the subgrade construction crews
  • Coordinating with other utilities, including Fortis and storm works
  • Schedule acceleration with longer shifts and multiple crews
  • Special releases required by Telus for splicing
  • Restricted shifts and hours for splicing

RAM Engineering Role
RAM was retained by the joint venture, FTG Constructors, to engage in preliminary design with Telus, as well as managing of the procurement, tendering, and construction phases. The primary electrical civil contractor was utilized during the subgrade construction phase to install the conduit.
